Journey
A field with no roadmap.
How a vehicle-to-vehicle PhD became Australia's first quantum AI doctorate at UniSQ and CSIRO.
-
Foundations
Postgraduate study in computer software engineering
Her master's research produced a hazard alert routing algorithm for sensor networks, and an internship at CERN in Switzerland produced a recovery tool and log analyser for grid computing.
-
Industry
Software Quality Assurance Engineer, NERO AG, Germany
Quality engineering on commercial software before returning to academia.
-
Teaching
Lecturer at several universities
Four years of university lecturing in computing before starting her doctorate.
-
July 2020
PhD begins at the University of Southern Queensland
She chose UniSQ to work with Dr Shahab Abdulla. The first topic was vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
-
January 2021
The pivot into quantum AI
A CSIRO Data61 top-up scholarship opened the door to quantum artificial intelligence. With no existing research group, she became the first PhD student at UniSQ and at CSIRO in the field, and served as HDR student representative for UniSQ College.
-
June 2023
Doctorate complete, CSIRO postdoc begins
She joined CSIRO's Data61 as a CERC Postdoctoral Fellow in quantum AI and cybersecurity, became a trained Mental Health Champion, and won Quantum Australia's People's Choice Award.
-
2024
Best in Quantum in Cyber Champion
National recognition from the Australian Women in Security Awards for her quantum generative models.
-
2025
Most Outstanding in IT Security
Named Australia's Most Outstanding in IT Security, profiled by UniSQ as a featured alumna, and launched the Food Ladder Industry PhD in quantum AI.
-
2026
AIIHE and CSIRO
Appointed Senior Lecturer and Master of IT Program Coordinator at the Australian International Institute of Higher Education, while continuing at CSIRO as a Visiting Scientist. In September she won AI in Space and Quantum at the Women in AI Australia and APAC Awards.
Quantum AI combines the complexity of quantum physics with the power of machine learning.
Collaborate
Research, speaking, supervision or media.
If it involves quantum AI, cybersecurity or getting more women into both, she would like to hear about it.
